Relais & Chateaux Hotel Castel Fragsburg

We have stayed in a very large number of five star hotels, and this is one of the very best.

Pros: The hotel setting is an eyrie above Merano and has remarkable views. The hotel staff was unbelievably friendly and professional. Hotel management is to be commended for its choice of staff and for their training. It was a pleasure to stay here. We chose the half-board plan and the food and wine were excellent.

Cons: I would say that the only drawback was the hotel’s fairly remote setting, which of course is also one of its attractions.

Excellent

Pros: Great place: comfortable beds, excellent breakfast, and a relaxing massage — everything at the highest level.

Cons: The restaurant was disappointing: neither Michelin-level nor simple. I would have preferred something more local and authentic, without unnecessary refinements that don’t justify themselves.

Pros: Lovely breakfast with a view, loads of choice of food. Comfortable beds and a small but lovely sauna/spa area.

Cons: Decor a bit traditional. The location is remote - up a very long and winding road and yet you can still hear traffic noise from the balcony because it rises from the valley. Some will love the seclusion but it means limited dining options locally (when you just want a chilled out meal not an expensive formal meal). The most special local restaurant option is at the very top of the hill, magic view and pure locally sourced set menu. Open only evenings and weekend lunchtime

Pros: +very friendly staff +amazing location +no need to leave the compound +terrific breakfast

Cons: -sometimes you can hear the motorway at breakfast (otherwise the compound is v quiet, esp by the pool)

Let your imagine runaway with you as you feel like the restaurant and rooms are up in a cubby house, with exceptional fu

Pros: Stunning scenery, beautiful rooms, extended choices for breakfast and divine dinner. Great romantic getaway or special occasion. Should have booked at least a couple of nights.

Pros: This hotel is just amazing in every way. Everything about it is superb from the very individual rooms to a magnificent restaurant accompanied by very friendly and efficient staff. A wonderful place indeed.

Cons: There is nothing to dislike.

Castel Fragsburg promises a romantic and enchanting experience for couples, young and old!

Pros: Fabulous breakfast with wonderful high quality products, and options to please everyone. And all from a scenic overlook of the valley below; if only we had wings. The welcome and attentiveness of staff was also amazing. Warm smiles give the day a great start.

Pros: Wonderful terrace of course! Beautiful gardens. We enjoyed our dinner at Prezioso restaurant, and also the breakfast.

Pros: Lovely setting and estate, amazing food, a great place to truly relax

Cons: At the pool, there no service, to order drinks or snacks you need to either call via a phone next to the pool (so everyone hears it) or walk back up yourself. If food or drinks get brought to the pool this costs extra service charge which is a bit odd when you pay that much for a room already. Some staff seemed rather young and not that experienced

Pros: Staff at reception. Wine expertise. Location high above the valley.

Cons: Staff in Restaurant was sometimes slightly disorganised. Some longer waiting times and wrong deliveries. Nothing major. Value for money for dinner was not optimal. Small amounts, highly priced. Pre-booking of wellness activities was partially ignored.
